I decided to write a blog detailing my daily breakfast routine, as I tend to eat the same thing most days of the week and conduct the same routine. When I wake up (on a day off work) I brew some coffee grounds. While the coffee is brewing, I start to cook my breakfast. My breakfast is based around a healthy diet and encompasses all three major macronutrients- protein, fats, and carbohydrates. I start by cracking 3-4 eggs and using just the egg white to make an omelet. I will add some type of vegetable to the eggs, either broccoli, spinach, or peppers. While the eggs are cooking, I pop a 1/2 cup of oats in the microwave for about 2-3 minutes. When both the omelet and oatmeal is complete, I will top the eggs with hot sauce and the oats with peanut butter. This way, I get protein from the egg whites, fats from the nut butter, and charms from the oatmeal. The reason I use only egg whites is to save my fats for peanut butter, because peanut butter is one of my favorite foods!
Next, I pour my cup of coffee, add Splenda and almond milk, and enjoy my healthy and nutritious breakfast. I usually eat breakfast alone because no one is home in the mornings at my apartment. I will take this time to prepare for my day and set my daily goals for myself. Goals are typically small challenges such as to drink a certain amount of water or get a certain number of steps in for the day. I enjoy eating breakfast alone because it gives me some “me” time. While I love eating with friends, I am a firm believer that everyone needs a little bit of time each day to self-reflect and be alone with oneself, as it can drastically improve your daily life. If you don’t’ believe me, give it a try sometime!
